Decision:

1.       That approval be given for the public realm improvements described in section 5 of the report.

2.       That approval be given for capital expenditure of £632,000 as set out in section 7 of the report to progress the detailed design and implementation of the scheme with all costs being met by Transport for London through the Local Implementation Plan budget.

3.                 That approval be given to modify and make Traffic Orders under sections 6 and 45 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, necessary to accommodate the public realm improvements, together with the Statement of Reasons as set out in Appendix D to the report.

4.               That delegated authority be given to the Executive Director for City Management and Communities to approve minor modifications to the approved scheme, in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Built Environment, the Cabinet Member for Sustainability and Parking and Cabinet Member for City Management and Customer Services.

1.       Since the adoption of the Soho Action Plan in 2007, the City Council has been committed to working with local stakeholders and landowners to improve this part of Soho, and to regenerate Berwick Street as Soho’s local high street.  The improvement of the market section between Peter Street and Broadwick Street was completed in August 2015.  This report presents proposals to improve the remaining section of Berwick Street between its junctions with Broadwick Street and Oxford Street.

2.       This scheme continues and builds on improvements being implemented on the walking corridor from Shaftesbury Avenue to Oxford Street via Rupert Street, Peter Street and Berwick Street, and will contribute positively to the regeneration of this part of Soho.

3.       On completion of this scheme pedestrians will be able to walk from Shaftesbury Avenue to Oxford Street completely step free.
