Election of Lord Mayor

(a)      To elect the Lord Mayor for the ensuing year.

 

(b)      Declaration of acceptance of office by the newly elected Lord Mayor.

Minutes:

Proposed by Councillor Nickie Aiken and seconded by Councillor Rachael Robathan that Councillor Christabel Flight be elected Lord Mayor of Westminster for the ensuing year.

 

Proposed by Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg and seconded by Councillor Ruth Bush that Councillor Patricia McAllister be elected Lord Mayor of Westminster for the ensuing year.

 

Upon a show of hands, the Lord Mayor declared that Councillor Christabel Flight had been elected Lord Mayor.

 

RESOLVED: That Councillor Christabel Flight be elected Lord Mayor of Westminster for the ensuing year.

 

Councillor Christabel Flight thereupon made subscribed the Declaration of Acceptance of Office of Lord Mayor and of the Office of Deputy High Steward of Westminster.  Having done so she took the Chair and thanked the Council for her election and reported that her husband Lord Howard Flight be her Consort.

The minutes of the Council meeting held on 29 April 2015 were, with the assent of the Members present, signed by the Lord Mayor as a true record.

Appointment of Lord Mayor's Chaplain

(a)        Notification by the Lord Mayor of appointment of the Lord Mayor’s Chaplain.

 

(b)        To present the past Lord Mayor’s badge and other insignia.

 

(c)        Other Communications (if any).

The Lord Mayor announced that he had appointed the Reverend Rupert Toovey as her Chaplain

To receive and consider the report and recommendations of the Head of Legal and Democratic Services on constitutional issues that require a Council decision.

The Lord Mayor, on behalf of the Council, presented Councillor Audrey Lewis with a past Lord Mayor’s badge and the Vote of Thanks on Vellum as agreed by the Council at its previous meeting and also presented past Lord Mayor’s Consort’s badges to Victoria Lewis, Frances Gladwin and Nancy Gladwin.  Councillor Lewis then thanked the Council on behalf of her Consorts and herself.

5.

Lord Mayor's Communications

Minutes:

The Lord Mayor informed the Council that the Annual Civic Service would be held at Westminster Abbey at 11.00am on Sunday 5 July 2015 and all present were welcome to attend.

6.

Constitutional Issues

Minutes:

The report of the Head of Legal and Democratic Services was submitted.

 

The Lord Mayor then put the recommendations set out in the report to the vote and on a show of hands declared these to be AGREED.

 

RESOLVED:

 

That the allocation of places on the following standing committees and notes the names of the Members appointed to them (including any changes), following notification by the respective Party Whips as set out below and detailed in Appendix A of the report be agreed.

 

That the Council confirm the proportional division of seats on the Standing Committees as shown in Column 3 of Appendix B circulated separately, as set out below:
