Additional documents:

Minutes:

4.1      The Executive Director of Democracy, Law and People introduced the report and confirmed that regard had been given to the recommendations of the London-wide Independent Remuneration Panel (IRP) convened by London Councils when drawing up the scheme. In addition, cross-party consultation had taken place, following which officers had recommended Option 2 for approval.

4.2      The Committee had considered the IRPs report and recognised that their proposals would result in a significant increase in the allowances scheme, an amount which had not been budgeted for. The Committee discussed the various proposals and was of the opinion that Option 2, a 3.88% increase in basic and special responsibility allowances which reflected the staff pay award, was the most appropriate option to proceed with. The Executive Director of Democracy, Law and People confirmed that any new scheme agreed would commence from 1 April 2024.

RESOLVED:</AI4>

1)              That Council be recommended to approve Option 2 of the Member Allowances 2024-2025 Scheme, a 3.88% Uplift Across All Allowances (Basic and SRAs), as set out in the General Purposes report with effect from 1 April 2024.

2)              That Council be recommended to agree to increase the Members’ Allowances (Basic and SRA) for the years 2024/25 to 2025/26 in line with any future salary increase for Council staff that may be agreed by the National Joint Council for Local Government Services.

(Councillor Mitchell abstained from voting on recommendation 1 and 2.)
