Shirland Road - improve the road layouts

We the undersigned petition Westminster City Council to improve the safety of people on foot and reduce air pollution by upgrading the junctions of Shirland Road, Kilburn Park Road and Chippenham Road.

We are calling on Westminster Council to commission a study looking at redesigning the whole junction to minimise congestion and maximise the safety of people on foot and bicycles.

This major junction is very busy with cars, buses, cyclists and people on foot all converging on a small area. The layout of the roads, pedestrian crossings and phasing of the traffic lights leads to congestion resulting in many safety risks and poor air quality.

There is a particular problem with the zebra crossing on Kilburn Park Road. Traffic frequently stops on the crossing as it waits to turn into Shirland Road. This blocks people on foot and forces them to dodge, unsafely, around the stationary cars and buses.
