Issue details
Extension of the Waste Collection and Street Cleansing Contract and Food Waste/Recycling Processing Contracts with Veolia ES (UK) Ltd.
The council has a statutory duty under the
Environmental Protection Act 1990 to keep highways clean (to
prescribed levels), collect household waste and collect commercial
or industrial waste if requested. The current waste collection and
cleansing contract commenced 16th September 2010 and was initially
for a seven-year term to September 2017.? However, in 2017 the
Council enacted a three-year extension to the contract extending
the term to September 2020. At which point a further one-year
extension was enacted taking the current contract term to 15th
September 2021.?
There is provision in the current contract for it to be extended
for up to a further three years to September 2024 without the
council having to undertake a formal competitive tendering
process.
